Nyaya Health Clinical Associate

This agreement, between Dr. NAME and Nyaya Health, stipulates expectations for both parties during the period from DATE to DATE during which time Dr. NAME will be working at the Bayalpata Hospital. The title during this time will be Clinical Associate and s/he will report directly to the Nyaya Executive Director and Medical Director onsite, as well as the Director of Operations in the USA.

 

Overview of Duties

The primary aim of the Clinical Associate is to work with the Program Director and Medical Director to improve clinical services at Bayalpata Hospital. S/he will not be involved in direct patient care. Some key components of the Clinical Associate's work will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating trainings of staff on clinical management issues;
  • Deploy new technologies and improve upon existing programs using various technologies;
  • Assist in the outpatient, inpatien & delivery area with midwives and health assistants to identify areas of need;
  • Consult with laboratory team to identify inefficiencies and dangerous practices;
  • Review infection control and waste management practices.

Specific goals and timelines will be posted on the wiki and will be finalized by the time of travel.

 

Pre-Deployment

In the three months prior to the trip, the Clinical Associate will be expected to review current protocols at the Nyaya Health and review the academic literature pertaining to the programs on which s/he will work.

 

Expectations

The Clinical Associate is expected to: 

  • regularly communicate about the progress of his work; 
  • submit a report detailing their work while in Achham, including suggestions for organizational improvement (due by departure from Achham);
  • refrain completely in imbibing alcohol, tobacco, or any mind-altering substances whenever s/he is in Achham, during work hours or any other time.  There is ZERO TOLERANCE, UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES of these behaviors, given the dangers of these substances in remote areas and the need to maintain a high level of respect in the community;
  • treat all staff members with respect and dignity;
  • listen carefully to feedback and suggestions from all staff members;
  • engage in no personal income-generating activities unless approved by the Nyaya Health Board of Directors;
  • dress professionally (business casual) and stay well-groomed whenever working;
  • comport him/herself courteously and professionally in all interactions with community members in Achham, during work hours or any other time;

 

Nyaya Health, under the direction of the program director, is expected to:

  • Provide weekly, specific tasks lists to the Clinical Associate;
  • Provide ongoing feedback as to the quality of his/her work and interactions with staff, patients, and community members, and identify areas for improvement;
  • Respectfully consider suggestions by the Clinical Associate and implement those suggestions that are possible and for those not possible, provide a rationale for why they are not;
  • On-site, arrange for room, board, and in-country travel. If expenses are incurred by Nyaya Health, these are tabulated and donated back by the Clinical Associate to Nyaya Health.
  • Pay attention to the mental and physical health of the clinical aassociate, and take care that the Clinical Associate is well-nourished and not overworked.   

 

Duties and expectations may change over time; such changes may be undertaken by verbal agreement between the program director of Nyaya Health and the Clinical Associate.

 

Post-Deployment

The Clinical Associate is expected to provide a detailed report for feedback and implementation by the Nyaya team, due before departure from Achham.  Nyaya Health will continue to follow-up with the Clinical Associate as to progress in meeting the suggestions of the Clinical Associate.

 

Compensation

This is an unpaid position.  The Clinical Associate is expected to pay any room, board, translation, or travel expenses; the Clinical Associate will also supply any required funds for publication and/or presentation of results and data stemming from any research conducted with Nyaya.

 

Finalizing the Agreement

This agreement will be finalized upon emailed agreement by the current program director of Nyaya Health and the Clinical Associate.
